Meadow Park | Eichler Neighborhood Palo Alto

  • The Meadow Park Eichler tract was built in 1957 and 1958 and features 38 Eichler homes mixed in with other mid-century modern residences. In Palo Alto just north of East Charleston Road, Eichler built his homes along on Grove Avenue, Grove Lane, and Gailen Avenue while also scattering a few earlier Eichlers on Gailen Avenue as well as Bibbits Drive, Louis, and East Charleston Road. The Meadow Park homes are larger than Eichlers usual design, and when they were being built, there were six different floor plan options. Each layout offered a large two-car garage, 4 or 5 bedrooms, and 2 bathrooms. Not only were these larger homes, but their lot sizes were also larger than normal for a tract home development. Eichler marketed these news homes as having “extra-large lots with space enough for a swimming pool and other luxury features.” Today Meadow Park is still a beloved Eichler neighborhood with residents who continue to uphold Eichlers ideals of community living. As an older neighborhood, Meadow Park has watched Palo Alto and the greater Silicon Valley transform into the bay area we know today. Now, the Palo Alto area is one of the most sought-after places to live in the state. As a worldwide tech hub, Palo Alto is home to companies like HP, Tesla, Skype, and VMware with tech giants Apple, Google, and Facebook all in neighboring cities. The Palo Alto School District is currently ranked #1 in the state of California and there are a plethora of top-ranked private schools in and around the city. Downtown Palo Alto is a charming combination of small-town accessibility and urban ambience. Outdoor cafes, tiny coffee shops, bookstores, mom-and-pop specialty shops, national chains, art galleries, two movie theaters and numerous restaurants attract shoppers, eaters and entertainment-seekers of all ages.
