SARATOGA EICHLER INFORMATION

The thirty-five Eichler Homes of Saratoga (a subdivision that also includes a number of non-Eichlers) could easily be candidates for "best Eichler neighborhood". They have much going for them. This part of Saratoga isn't the Saratoga of "everyone gets an acre and a mansion", but it's a very attractive area that reminds me of the better Los Altos neighborhoods.

One of Joe's later developments, dating from 1964 and 1965, which usually means handsome upscale homes—and sure enough, atrium gallery models are common here. These homes are big, too, especially for their time, most offering four bedrooms and about 2000 sf. or more. Lots are big too, generally around 12,000 sf And the local schools are some of the best in the nation. SARATOGA EICHLER HISTORY

Built in 1964-1965 by Joseph Eichler the small 35-home Claude Oakland, Eichler tract in Saratoga, has always been unique, though not as large as the Eichlers in Fallen Leaf Park in Los Altos, the Eichlers located on Shubert and De Havillan reveal a distinctive theme: Many of the one-story homes embody a contemporary design with low roofs, open-air courtyards behind the front door and plentiful natural light throughout.

What makes the Eichlers of Saratoga special is that only two of the homes in the neighborhood have been diminished by remodels not in keeping with the Mid-Century modern spirit of Claude Oakland and Joseph Eichler.

In the past few years the Eichlers in Saratoga have become more significant by receiving historic status by the city of Saratoga, and moreover qualifying for the state’s historic status as well.
